Veranstaltungsarten am Philosophischen Seminar / Types of courses you can take at the philosophical department:
 
  1. Vorlesung / lecture (every level)
  2. Proseminar / intermediate course (beginner level, first and second year)
  3. Hauptseminar / advanced course (advanced level, from third year on, comparable to graduate or honours seminar)
  4. Tutorat / tutorial (mostly für lectures)
  5. Kolloquium / colloquium (advanced level, postgraduate level)
 
All types of courses are offered every semester. As an ERASMUS-student you can attend all courses except for the Interpretationskurs. Discuss with your departmental coordinator at home wich courses are useful for you and will be aknowlegded at your home university.

All courses are assigned to one or more of the following subject areas:
 
-         theoretische Philosophie / theoretical philosophy
-         praktische Philosophie / practical philosophy
-         Antike / Mittelalter / ancient world / middle ages
-         Neuzeit / Moderne / modern times / modern spirit
 
 
Benotung / Grading

For most subjects the German grading covers marks from 1 to 6 with:

  in words: corresponding to:
 "1" "sehr gut" "excellent"
 "2" "gut" "good"
 "3" "befriedigend" "satisfactory"
 "4" "ausreichend" "fair"
 "5" "mangelhaft" "insufficient"
 "6" "ungenügend" "clear fail"
 
 For grades corresponding to A, B, C, D and F:
